There's a list a mile long when it comes to supplements, ingredients etc. that are proven to be beneficial for healthy skin and it sure can be overwhelming sometimes right?
I'm feeling you. There's so much advice out there when it comes to what you should be doing/taking for your skin but sometimes less is actually more...
How so?
Stay with me here for a moment...
If you looked in just about any women's bathroom vanity you'd find an array of various skin care products, lotions and potions and some of which overpromise and underdeliver!
And then you move to the kitchen pantry (where most women keep their supplements) and you'll find a bunch of bottles, containers and tubs of supplements that claim they're the new miracle skin pill when all they really are is a bunch of synthetic useless garbage (in many cases).
The problem is that we're bombarded by advertising on Facebook, Instagram, Billboards, magazines and TV as to what we "should" buy and use to get a more youthful, less aged complexion and appearance.
Well, it can all be very confusing and often we are convinced into buying things we don't really need (therefore wasting our precious hard-earned dollars) when really it is much more simple than that.
What if we could simplify things?
Instead of spending a fortune on false promises we invested in something real, something tested and measured, and something from nature? Something as simple as a mineral...
Now I'm not talking about mineral makeup here, that's for another day, but I am talking about an important mineral that we need for beautiful skin (and hair and nails and just about everything else health-related).
I'm talking about magnesium! Who knew right?
I sure didn't and I'll be the first to admit. I had no clue that magnesium was necessary for healthy, beautiful, glowing skin and keeping it smoother, more refined and with fewer wrinkles and lines.
This simple mineral is incredible when it comes to anti-aging, skin health and helping stabilise hormonal imbalances in your body plus a whole range of other healthy benefits! Benefits including gut health (you can read my recent blog here called 'Magnesium and Gut Health').
So How Does Magnesium Actually Help Skin?
A deficiency in magnesium results in lower levels of fatty acids on the skin and this causes a reduction in elasticity and moisture which has the dreaded outcome of dryness, sagging skin and loss of tone.
OMG, this is EVERYTHING!!
Dryer skin + Lacking tone = MORE WRINKLES!!
Another incredible function of magnesium for skin is the role kit plays in reducing acne, breakouts, skin allergies but also collagen function.
Say What?
It's role in collagen function, yep! Magnesium is one powerful mineral and electrolyte and not only does collagen rely on magnesium but so does elastin as well!
According to Wikipedia:
"Elastin is a highly elastic protein in connective tissue and allows many tissues in the body to resume their shape after stretching or contracting. Elastin helps skin to return to its original position when it is poked or pinched."
But What If I Eat an Amazing Diet?
While it's true that you obtain magnesium from the foods you eat and maybe you get enough through diet but if you have abnormal levels of stress (which most people these days do), there's a good chance that your magnesium is being zapped right out of your body (well much of it anyway).
Stress depletes magnesium!
Make Magnesium Your New Bestie!
And on the other hand, if you're someone who's diet may be slightly (or majorly lacking) in magnesium you may really want to consider supplementing with a high-quality, whole-food natural magnesium product like this one?
When 3 is Not a Crowd...
Ok, so you've buddied up with magnesium and that's a beautiful thing but what if there was 1 more important pal to complete your friend circle?
A pal who would liven up the skin celebration on a whole other level...
Well there is and her name is Hydrolyzed collagen but she prefers to be called H.C for short (she's kind of a free spirit ;)
H.C is the kind of skin-loving friend who uplifts, nourishes and strengthens, whilst weaving her good magic to make things even better!
Just like magnesium, she's the friend you'll never want to let go once you know the value she'll bring to your life.
H.C is super helpful when it comes to your skin and she can help you to plump up your skin so it appears more youthful, smooth out fine lines and wrinkles (yes please!), improve texture and radiance to help you to be your most gorgeous and confident self.
I'll take a friendship circle like that any day!
If you're sat there wondering how to connect with these two incredible friends, I am happy to introduce you...
You can find Magnesium here and Hydrolyzed collagen here.
To Sum Things Up
