Dangers Of Electromagnetic Frequencies And How To Protect Yourself
The use of wireless devices is an inevitable part of pour life today. From cell phones, smart meters to Wi-Fi routers, they are all around us. When they function they produce electromagnetic fields around them, better known as EMF.
These fields from different devices can stack up and reach dangerous levels of radiation. Recent studies have found that a lot of health problems are caused by EMF.
There are even some insurance companies that now provide health insurance for medical issues caused by this radiation exposure.
How does it affect your health?
Electromagnetic fields can be extremely dangerous to our well-being. When we use our phones for a call, 10-80% of the radiation enters about two inches past our skull. Since children have thinner skulls, the penetration is higher.
Side effects of excess radiation can range from disturbed sleep to alterations in the DNA. This absorption can lead to irreversible changes in the body. The changes start at the micro-level affecting cells. Cell membrane may suffer damage and also lose calcium ions.
EMF can cause memory loss, eye problems, fatigue, reduced immunity, headache, stress, reduced melatonin, and also interfere with pacemakers.
Long term exposure to EMF can culminate in diseases like cancer, diabetes, depression, brain tumours, heart conditions, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
What can be done about it?
While we cannot completely avoid our exposure to EMFs because they are all around us no matter where we go, we can reduce the number of sources and our vulnerability to these harmful frequencies.
This article is not to instil any fear, but simply to arm you with the knowledge and tools to better protect you and your loved ones.
The best way to reduce your exposure to harmful EMFs is to reduce the amount of EMF that permeates your home.
You can do this by reducing the number of electronic devices in your house. Also, turn off your Wi-Fi router, mobile phone, and laptop when you don’t need them.
Earthing:
Earthing is the process of transferring the residual charge of your body to Earth. It is also known as grounding. EMF from your devices can get accumulated in the body and it is good practice to carry out earthing of the body to discharge all the accumulated charge.
The body, when it comes in contact with the ground soaks up electrons and reaches the same potential as the planet. This removes all electric fields and you become an extension of the earth’s gigantic electric system.
All you need to do to earth yourself is to take off your shoes and go barefoot on the grass, sand or earth.

Maintain safe distance:
The amount of EMF induced is inversely proportional to the distance between the two interacting objects. In simple words, this means that the more distance you maintain between yourself and your devices, the safer it is for you.
- Text whenever possible instead of talking on the phone.
- When you have to, use the speakerphone instead of Bluetooth headphones.
- Do not keep your laptop on your lap.
- Do not sleep with your phone next to your head.
Get in-house plants to absorb EMF:
Symptoms like constant stress, insomnia, and headaches are often linked to higher EMF in your home. Having plants kept indoors largely minimises the radiation due to electromagnetic waves by absorbing or eliminating them.
In addition to bringing down the EMF levels in your body, these plants also add to the aesthetic appeal of your home along with purifying the air indoors.
These are some of the most useful, beautiful, and low-maintenance plants that you can install to cut down your EMF exposure in the long run:
- Cactus
- Aloe vera
- Asparagus fern
- Ivy
- Stone Lotus Flower
- Spider plant
Reduce Exposure to X-rays & Radiation Therapy
This is not health advice, but it is important to be aware that radiation and X-rays are a form of Electromagnetic frequency and this has been linked to cancers and DNA mutations.
X-rays have been classed as a carcinogen (which is something that can cause cancer). According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the benefits outweigh the negative consequences but I would personally err on the side of caution and limit how many X-rays I received in my life.
Types of these are radiography, mammography, fluoroscopy and computer tomography (CT scans).
It is CT scans that can be the most harmful as they can give you the largest dose of X-rays when compared to other types of X-ray procedures.
We aren't telling people not to get X rays, I am sure there are times when they are important but it's just about having an awareness about their dangers and exactly when they are necessary and when they may be avoided.
Summing it up:
Rising EMF exposure is a serious issue in our modern society. If you could see it, it would look like a very bright light entering your house through doors, windows, and other crevices and openings in your walls.
The ill-effects of exposure to these radiations have been proved many times and should be taken seriously. Limit your exposure to these devices. Spend more time with other people and in nature.
