Açai & Acerola Cherry Gummy Bears
This is a recipe that has been swirling around in my brain for quite some time and today I finally got the chance to publish it for you. A lot of you guys (gals really), have asked me for a gummy bear recipe and I've been meaning to get it up on the blog.
Gummy bears in general are a great way to get more gut-loving gelatin into ones diet and especially for little ones (gummy bears a fun to eat) 🧸!
Also, when they taste THIS good, you may never need to buy them from the store again.
The best part is, you know what's in them and it's all good!
My personal favourite way to enjoy these is with cherry juice. This juice is not always the easiest to find (try Earth Markets or online).
Just do the best you can, you really can't go wrong!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup 100% fruit juice (e.g., apple, grape, or cherry*)
- 2 tbsp Perfect Supplements Non-GMO, Glyphosate-free Gelatin
- 1 tbsp Perfect Supplements Organic Açai powder
- 1 tbsp Perfect Supplements Organic Acerola Cherry powder
- 2-3 tbsp honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
- 1 tsp lemon juice (optional for added tartness)
*Cherry juice is my preference but you might like something else
Equipment:
- Gummy bear moulds (can be purchased on Amazon)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Fruit Juice Base:
- In a small saucepan, pour the fruit juice and heat over low-medium heat. You want the juice to be warm but not boiling.
2. Add the Powders:
- Slowly whisk in the Açai powder and Acerola cherry powder until reasonably dissolved. The mixture should be smooth without any lumps. Refridgerate this juice until cool as you must add the gelatin to cool liquid to allow it to "bloom". We will explain what that means below 👇🏼
Blooming gelatin is the process of sprinkling gelatin powder over a cold liquid and letting it sit for a few minutes. This allows the gelatin granules to absorb the liquid, swell, and soften, ensuring smooth, lump-free integration into the recipe when heated. It's an essential step for achieving the right texture in gummy bears.
3. Sweeten the Mix:
- Add honey or maple syrup to the mixture, adjusting the sweetness to your preference. Stir until thoroughly combined.
4. Incorporate the Gelatin:
- Gradually sprinkle the Perfect Supplements Gelatin over the juice mixture, whisking continuously to avoid clumps. Continue stirring until the gelatin is completely dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
5. Optional Lemon Juice:
- Add the lemon juice for an extra zing, if desired.
6. Pour into Moulds:
- Remove the saucepan from the heat. Carefully pour the mixture into gummy bear moulds. You can use a dropper or small spoon for precision.
7. Chill to Set:
- Place the filled moulds in the refrigerator for about 2 hours or until the gummies are fully set.
8. Unmould and Store:
- Once set, pop the gummy bears out of the moulds. Store them in an airtight BPA-free container in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks.
Notes:
- Adjusting Firmness: If you prefer firmer gummies, increase the amount of gelatin to 2.5 or 3 tablespoons.
- Flavour Variations: You can experiment with different fruit juices and powders to create various flavour combinations.
These gummy bears are packed with antioxidants from the Açai and Acerola cherry powders and have the added benefits of collagen from the gelatin, making them a healthy treat!
