If done the right way, smoothies can be a glass of wellbeing, however, if done the wrong way, they can do just the opposite!
Today I am here to give you the facts when it comes to this popular beverage...
Smoothies can be nutrient-dense when done correctly, meaning, they give you a whole lotta extra nutrition that you may not have got otherwise.
Think about it this way...
With a smoothie, you can get all the good fats, fibre, healthy carbs (or reduce carbs for keto), fruits and veggies and antioxidants, enzymes and energy in just one glass!
Smoothies make life easier! 😌
They are quick to make thus saving you time and stress. You can literally whip up a smoothie in minutes! Pop into a flask and you're out the door. Enjoy it for breakfast lunch or post-workout snack.
Can I get an AMEN? 🙌🏻
Smoothies are often better than juice because a smoothie contains fibre and often essential fats to boost your brain, gut health, energy, metabolism and more!
The fibre in smoothies contributes to good gut health and we know that a happy gut equals a happier you 😃
Smoothies and Wellbeing
Drinking a smoothie in the morning can give you boundless energy that eating a piece of toast or a bowl of cereal may not. The reason for this is because you are giving your body exactly what it needs to function optimally. They help you get through the day with more vitality and fewer energy slumps.

Smoothies Increase your daily fruit n veg intake
You can get more fruits and veggies into your diet by adding a smoothie to your daily regime. Try blanching some zucchini, broccoli or cauliflower, freezing it and then adding it into your smoothie. If you follow the recipes in my smoothie eBook you won't go wrong! These smoothies all taste delicious and are super balanced. ⚖️
Smoothies for Gut Health
When you add and omit certain ingredients you can turn a regular beverage into a drink that has superpowers ✨Adding gut-loving ingredients such as dietary fibre, coconut oil, green leafy veggies, other veggies, fruits, fermented kale, magnesium and collagen can help your gut health in many ways.
The fibre from the fruits, veggies and grass powders can really help keep the intestines healthy as they act as an internal broom. 🧹
Coconut oil can help with gut health because raw coconut oil is anti-fungal and when you eat it, it helps kill the fungus that may be living inside your gut.
Magnesium may be useful for a healthy gut as magnesium is a natural muscle relaxant but not only that if you're magnesium-deficient, this can alter your gut microbiota and that negatively impacts both gut health and can also cause depression!
Collagen can help improve the gut lining as it contains amino acids proline and glycine. This may be useful for anyone with IBS, leaky gut or other digestive problems.
Smoothies for Beautiful Skin
If you read my other blog 'Glowing Skin Strawberry Smoothie' you would have read that smoothies can improve the health and appearance of your skin (when done right of course). Smoothies can provide skin-loving nourishment to enjoy skin that glows with radiant vitality and youthfulness.
You can add things such as avocado, collagen, greens and reds (veggies and berries), coconut oil or MCT oil, cashews, almond butter, magnesium and many more to increase the skin-nourishing benefits! ✨
Smoothies for a Super Brain
We've always known how important our brains are but as of recent times, we are learning more and more about how to take care of this vital organ to help prevent brain diseases. By feeding your body the right foods, you, in turn, feed your brain and one way to get in some powerful brain-boosting foods is through smoothies!
In my recent smoothie eBook, I included one of the very best recipes for improving your brains function and wellbeing. The ingredients were carefully researched and chosen because of their brain-loving benefits.🧠
Taste is always important because who wants to drink something that tastes like sludge? It has to taste good for you to enjoy it and it has to taste good for it to be a sustainable choice.
I drink different smoothies every day as I think it's important to mix things up but I know when I drink this particular smoothie (found on page 18 of my eBook, available here), I have such incredible brainpower! 🧠
This brainpower comes in the form of mental clarity, epic recall, productivity, focus, retention and just getting shit done! 👊🏼
Smoothies for Detoxifying
Again, it comes back to what you're putting in because some ingredients can act as powerful detoxifiers and others can add load to your liver (liver loaders), so be sure when choosing ingredients for detox that you choose wisely.
Ingredients to add-in may include things like avocado, cucumber, dandelion, broccoli sprout powder, coriander (cilantro if in the USA), Atlantic Dulse flakes, blueberries, mint, spirulina, chlorella, lemon, grapefruit, broccoli, matcha and moringa, apples, garlic, beetroot, ginger, turmeric and more...
Foods to Avoid for Detox
Dairy, coffee (liver-loader), GMOs, foods that are grown using pesticides and other harmful chemicals, refined sugars, eggs and meat (not that you would put meat in a smoothie surely!?!) 🤢are to be avoided when on any detox protocol.
See pages 12, 15, 19 of my smoothie eBook for some incredible detox smoothie. Grab your copy here.
Smoothies for Ageless Living
Another thing I simply adore about smoothies is the fact that they can help slow down the ageing process so we look and feel more youthful. The thing is, while we cannot be 20 forever, we can extend our years and improve our appearance by adding in more antioxidants through the foods we eat.
By adding in things like green leafy veg, super greens, berries, fruits & veg, collagen, healthy fats from coconut oil, avocados, almond butter, micro-algae such as spirulina and chlorella you are giving your body the right nourishment to help put the brakes on aging.
Smoothies for Weight Loss
Weight is an issue for many of us and keto smoothies can be a great tool to add to your weight-loss tool belt! That's because they are low-to-no carbs, have the good healthy fats needed to fill you up and burn fat, contain no sugar but contain fibre (to also keep you full and add to your gut wellbeing).
It's important to choose the right ingredients when looking to shed the kilos and that is exactly why I've added quite a few Keto-friendly recipes in my eBook - So Many Perfect Smoothies. You can grab yourself a copy here.
Smoothies for Hydration
You can increase your hydration levels by drinking more hydrating smoothies...
How so?
If you add hydrating ingredients such as watermelon, cucumber and/or adding a pinch of salt*, this will take your smoothie to higher hydrating levels 💦
Also, if you choose a base of either pure water or coconut water, this is probably going to be the most hydrating! 💧
My favourite hydrating smoothie is on page 25 of my eBook - So Many Perfect Smoothies. Grab your copy here.
*Opt for Himalayan or the Celtic Sea salt over table salt for maximum health benefits.
Smoothies for Better Sleep
Do you have trouble falling asleep at night? Try a 'sleep smoothie'! 😴
Simply add any or many of the following ingredients to your daily smoothie and get ready to hit the pillow!
By adding kiwi, banana, cooked sweet potato, Rhodiola Rosea, collagen or magnesium to your smoothie you are preparing your body internally for a good night's shut-eye. 🥱
How do these things help sleep?
- Kiwi fruit is high in both antioxidants and serotonin which can help sleep. Serotonin is important in the sleep-wake cycle. 🥝
- Bananas contain the muscle-relaxing minerals - magnesium and potassium. They also contain the amino acid tryptophan which is a precursor to sleep-inducing neurotransmitter - serotonin. 🍌
- Sweet potato can also help with serotonin production and the sleep hormone - melatonin. 🍠
- Adding a high-quality collagen supplement to your life can do wonders for your slumber. This is because collagen is high in the amino acid glycine and also protein and both of these are great sleep-promoters. 🌙
- Rhodiola Rosea is known to improve sleep as it has a very calming effect on the body's nervous system and adrenal glands.🌼
- Magnesium is vital for relaxed muscles and also for good quality sleep! When we are depleted, our sleep can suffer. This affects our happiness, mood, hormones, productivity and more!
I really hope you enjoyed reading this blog today as much as I enjoyed writing it for you. I am always learning -especially when I delve deep into a topic.
