Why I Add Turmeric to My Juices and Smoothies

Turmeric may help slow down ageing because of the antioxidant curcumin which turmeric contains. Curcumin can help with oxidative damage from free radicals (oxidative damage is responsible for ageing and many diseases). So in short without getting too sciencey (and there is plenty of science to support this) we need antioxidants from the foods we eat to help us age gracefully.

Prevent Liver Disease

Turmeric has the ability to detoxify the liver naturally and can help prevent liver disease. The liver’s role is to detoxify the blood by producing enzymes and with the help of turmeric, it can increase the production of enzymes needed to break down and decrease toxins in the body.

A strong immune system lessens the chance of suffering from colds, flu and coughs. If you do get a cold, a cough or the flu, you can feel better sooner by mixing one teaspoon of turmeric powder in a glass of warm water and drinking it once daily. Nutritionists and health experts have given emphasis on how important it is to have a strong immune system. A healthy immune system not only does it help ward off the dreaded cold, cough and chest congestion but it may also help prevent other bigger health issues and diseases such as cancer. Turmeric can support immunity and fight infection because of its anti inflammatory properties.

People across the globe use turmeric in their cooking. If you haven’t really given much consideration to this little yellow spice, maybe it’s time to ‘spice things up’ and start reaping the rewards that turmeric can bring? You can start off with a simple tea (my cold/flu elixir)…

Recipe for Turmeric Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 2 organic carrots
  • 1 lemon
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1 tsp-1 tbsp of Perfect MCT oil
  • A large piece of fresh turmeric (use 1/4 tsp powder if preferred)
  • 1 scoop of Perfect Hydrolyzed Collagen powder (for protein + amino acids)
  • 1 tsp of raw honey (optional)
  • Ice

Method:

  1. In a juicer, juice up your carrots (skin on), the lemon and the turmeric
  2. Add this juice to your blender and add in the remaining ingredients and blend until smooth
  3. Enjoy immediately to gain optimal nutrition!
