My question is a little cheeky but what if I asked you "why not take a greens powder"? You might say "because they taste like pond scum"!

You just might. And if you feel this way about greens powder I totally get it, they mostly are quite horrid.

Detoxifying Greens

Zesti™ Daily Gut Immune greens contains some fabulous detoxifying greens that your body will adore! You will especially love the organic broccoli sprouts, chlorella and spirulina but also the moringa, spinach, matcha, barley grass, wheatgrass and alfalfa sprouts!

Detoxifying greens are so powerful because they contain chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is awesome because it actually helps to bind toxins (like aflatoxins, heavy metals*, herbicides etc.)

*Particularly chlorella.

As the world gets more and more toxic and our food and air become this way too, it's important to be increasing foods that help us to detox better and more effectively. The greens in our blend were carefully selected to have this effect so you can improve your wellbeing and keep your skin looking radiant.

Some say that greens are also vital if you want a more alkaline body. Living in a more alkaline (rather than acidic) state is better for our health according to some. An alkaline state is known to make the body less prone to disease and illness. 

Gut-loving Fibre

There's no doubt that we need fibre for good gut and overall health and so we added 4 different types of fibre to our greens powder to cover all the bases for you.

Fibre is the non-digestible carbohydrate in all plant foods. Some is soluble (dissolves in water) and other fibre is non-soluble (does not dissolve).

Most fibre is fermentable (the gut microbes break down the fibre and this process is called "fermentation").

The health benefits of fibre are many, everything from improved digestion to improved stool/less constipation and a healthier gut microbiome, which we now know positively effects the brain and mental health. 

The fibres we chose for Zesti™️ have been carefully selected because of their benefits but we also wanted to keep the carbs low for anyone who is wanting to eat fewer carbs but still get the gut and other benefits.

The fibres we chose are:

  • Acacia gum - soluble fibre
  • Guar gum (partially hydrolyzed) - solule fibre
  • Larch Arabinogalactan - soluble fibre
  • Organic green banana starch - insoluble fibre and resistant starch

The benefits fro green banana starch alone are pretty impressive! 😲

Actives/Functional Ingredients

We believe that for a greens powder to have that extra beneficial kick, it should contain some active/functional ingredients. These are DGL (Deglycyrrhizinated licorice), Aloe vera, Echinacea purpurea, marshmallow root.

Deglycyrrhizinated licorice* has been traditionally used to treat hormone issues, gut and throat problems, respiratory issues and fatigue.

*Also classed as a tonic root.

Aloe vera is known to be an active ingredient as it contains vitamins, minerals, enzymes, lignin, amino acids and more!

Echinacea purpurea is an active ingredient as it also contains many active compounds such as caffeic acid, alkamides, phenolic acids, rosmarinic acid and polyacetylenes. Echinacea is known to be an immune stimulator. 

Since the beginning of time, marshmallow root has been used to treat many conditions and symptoms. Popular for its respiratory, digestive and skin benefits. Marshmallow root is also antibacterial and antioxidant-rich.

Adaptogens 

As you may know, an adaptogen is something that can help our body adapt to stress. It could be emotional, mental, physical or environmental stress, it does not matter the type, an adaptogen can be your best friend here!

We have chosen two fantastic adaptogens which we'll discuss but we wanted to address why we chose not to put ashwagandha in there. We realise that ashwagandha is an incredible adaptogen but it has a very bitter flavour so we avoided it. The bitterness would have thrown off the flavour big time!

We want everything in the Zesti™️ brand to taste really good! 😋

Astragalus: we chose astragalus* (pronounced astra-gah-lus) for its incredible benefits for the immune system, blood sugar balance**, kidneys and heart. 

*Also classed as a tonic root.

**Studies on animals have shown an improvement in sugar metabolism.

Schisandra berries: schisandra has a long history of use in TCM (traditional Chinese medicine). The purported benefits are many, including;

  • Brain health: schisandra has had reported positive effects on Alzheimer's disease.
  • Liver health: Schisandra contains powerful compounds that may help the liver. The first is schisandrin B - known to help reduce fatty acids in mice studies and schisandrin C - shown to be liver-protective in mice studies. 
  • Menopause: studies have shown some symptom relief for menopausal women who take schisandra.
  • Depression: schisandra was shown to have an antidepressant effect in mice studies.
  • Stress & Anxiety: as schisandra is an adaptogen, this means that it can help to reduce the effects of stress and anxiety. 

Antioxidants

Antioxidants are in many of the real foods we eat (fruits, veggies, herbs etc.) and Zesti™️ contains all of the above! Pretty much every ingredient in Zesti™️ (bar a few) contain antioxidants or possess antioxidant activity.

The ingredients you will find that have this are acerola cherry, aloe vera, alfalfa, astragalus, sprouts, barley grass, broccoli sprouts, chlorella, ginger, matcha green tea, moringa leaf, pineapple, pomegranate, schisandra, spirulina, spinach and wheat grass. 

Boosting our antioxidants naturally (through the foods above) can help to offset the damage that free radicals can cause.  A free radical is an unstable molecule that is made during normal cell metabolism. If we don't consume enough antioxidants, free radicals can cause oxidative stress which causes disease and accelerated ageing! 👵🏼

Flavonoids

Flavonoids are an exciting compound found in many foods such as green tea, black tea, cacao, coffee, citrus fruits, acerola cherries, moringa, pineapple, pomegranate peel, spinach and many other foods.

If you're consuming a wide variety of the above, you'll be getting adequate flavonoids. This is important because flavonoids have anticancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, cardio-protective and neuro-protective effects on the body.

When you eat (or drink) more flavonoid-rich foods/beverages, you naturally help shield against every day toxins.

Saccharomyces Boulardii
