Benefits of Colon Hydrotherapy
When you need a clean fix from the inside, it might be time to consider colon hydrotherapy? (commonly known as colonic irrigation or colon cleansing).
It’s often done before a medical procedure like colonoscopy but some people do it to get rid of toxins that have accumulated for a long period of time especially from foods that have been eaten.
Detoxification is an important process in order to cleanse the colon, remove toxins, protect the body against diseases and improve the overall health and wellness. I personally do a full internal cleanse twice each year (in March and again in August for a month). This involves eating a plant-based diet and eliminating the following things from my diet/life:
- Alcohol
- Gluten
- Caffeine
- Red meat and dairy
- Processed foods
- Junk/take away foods
- Refined sugars
I also take a few supplements to help the detox process such as chlorella, liver detox support and activated charcoal. By taking liver detox support these I up the ante and really help to support the liver through its 2 phases of detox. The chlorella is loaded with nutrients but it’s also a very powerful detoxifier (especially heavy metals). The charcoal is another super internal cleanser and it’s known to remove mould from the body. I can highly recommend this one from Eden Health foods.
Colon hydrotherapy can be done any time of the year and you don’t have to do it when purely on a cleanse/detox protocol. I love doing this every now and then also just to really flush things out (so to speak).
Some folks who have never considered having this treatment can be a bit put off by it and it’s not for everyone but I can tell you from my own experience, that it has helped me to be healthier and feel much better (less bloated tummy, better skin and more energy).
I would recommend what is known as an ‘open colonic’ as opposed to a ‘closed colonic’ and that’s because when you go into an ‘open colonic’ you have control over everything but if you do the other one, you have some someone assisting you (how awkward)! 😏
So Why Do We Need It?
Toxins, additives in our food and drinks, pesticides on crops and air pollution lurk everywhere and the reason why we might need colon hydrotherapy is to give our colon the break it needs to possibly prevent colon cancer.
When toxins accumulate in the colon it can affect the body’s performance in doing daily tasks and your overall feeling of energy and wellbeing.
However, the body can detoxify itself on a regular basis through proper bowel movement but some toxins may remain and need some assistance to be removed. Only 90% of toxins makes it to the toilet and the remaining 10% stays inside the body, which is why colonic irrigation is necessary.
Factors that can contribute to faecal accumulation are the following:
- Stress
- Red meat or processed meat
- Dairy products and foods high in gluten
- Carbohydrates and refined sugar
- Artificial preservatives
- High caffeine and alcohol intake
- Dehydration
- Fizzy drinks
Detoxify Now!
When we think about having a ‘colonic’ (colon hydrotherapy), we might put it in the ‘I’ll do that one day’ basket and then we never do it. The thing is, detoxification is something that must be done now! And when I say now I mean as as soon as possible. You are worth it and health is the greatest investment we could ever make.
Exercise and healthy diet are two important components in keeping the body well but having a little help removing toxins is needed. Here’s why colonic irrigation is beneficial to the body:
1. Good Digestion
Impaired digestion can lead to constipation that can hamper immune function and decrease energy levels. Detoxification allows waste products that have lingered for so long in your system to be pushed out through bowel movement. Colonic hydrotherapy can ease any discomfort, clearing the passageway for good nutrient absorption.
2. Boost in Energy
Once toxins are out from the body, there is naturally an improvement in the blood circulation so expect for a boost in your energy like never before (I can attest to that!)
3. Weight Loss
Include fibre rich foods in your diet to hasten the process of digestion. Choosing plant based foods to eat can speed up metabolism and improve digestion naturally. People who had colonic irrigation claimed to have lost up to 20 pounds over the course of a month; significant weight loss was noted and an improvement in the overall health and well-being.
Please Note: I do not suggest that you do colonics if your chief aim is to lose weight, some weight loss will occur but weight loss is best approached holistically through proper diet and exercise.
4. Better Absorption of Vitamins and Nutrients
A healthy and clean colon promotes better absorption of vitamin, minerals and nutrients to pass into the bloodstream unobstructed by toxins.
5. Prevent Colon Cancer
Certain things we eat and drink, the air that we breathe and products we apply on our skin contain toxins that are absorbed and processed in the GI (gastrointestinal) system, liver and kidneys. If these toxins are not pushed out from the organs they can cause trouble to the body’s functions and things such as the growth of polyps, cysts and development of cancer can occur.
What to Expect
Before getting yourself into this procedure, have a talk with your doctor and list all possible questions you may have to put your heart at ease. Don’t take my word for it, for anything in fact, always do extensive research online and watch videos on how it’s done and what to expect before, during and after the procedure. Lastly, listen to your body and make healthy choices to improve your health.
