How to Make a Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie
Do the words ‘heavy metal detox‘ come to mind when you think about being healthy? Let’s face it, the world we live in is far from clean and we are constantly exposed to heavy metals every single day! They come from the exhausts of vehicles, they fall out of the sky from jet trails, they are in pesticides, on our food, in our water, our oceans, our fish and much much more!
For good health and disease prevention, heavy metals MUST be removed from our body but they should also be removed slowly and sustainably through natural methods such as incorporating the ingredients from this “heavy metal detox smoothie” (source: medicalmedium.com).
There are 5 key ingredients in this heavy metal detox smoothie and they work synergistically to remove metals effectively and safely.
This smoothie should be consumed regularly and if you have an aversion to coriander in your smoothie, try making a dressing, adding it fresh to salads or stir frys
If you cannot tolerate coriander, this often means that your body may be extremely toxic and you may wish to consider getting a heavy metal test done. Research integrative doctors in your area who perform such tests (the doctor I saw used the Oligoscan). It was pretty amazing what metals I was high in and I am not at all surprised because I have been losing my memory lately and have also been super forgetful, which is bloody scary! It makes you worry that you’re getting Alzheimer’s disease or something. From what I have learned over the years about heavy metal toxicity, this can cause brain issues, neurological problems such as memory issues, forgetfulness, brain fog and much more!
If you have any of these problems, you too may have some toxicity from heavy metals in your body and brain. It’s always best to see your trusted health practitioner though and have some testing done. However, it certainly won’t harm you by incorporating this smoothie (or these 5 key ingredients) into your daily diet.
The 5 Key Ingredients:
Spirulina (organic and clean)
This blue-green algae is a MUST for drawing out heavy metals from your brain, CNS (central nervous system), and your liver and works along side barley grass powder because it soaks up the heavy metals that the barley grass removes, so you can see that these products work in unison.
Barley Grass Powder (3 Grass blend)
Barley grass is necessary for removing heavy metals but it does this better when working in a team. It helps prepare the mercury for total absorption by the spirulina. This highly nutritional grass has the ability to draw out toxins (metals) from your spleen, intestinal tract, pancreas, thyroid and reproductive system.
Coriander as we call it here in Australia (also known as cilantro in the states) is the BOMB for removing heavy metals – especially mercury! Coriander goes in deep to find metals that are lurking in those hard-to-reach places. It is the Sherlock Homes of the detox world
If you can’t get wild blueberries at least try to get frozen organic blueberries (woolies have them). Conventional ones won’t cut the mustard because they contain harmful pesticides and other chemicals that are laced with toxic heavy metals such as arsenic! Choosing conventional would be counterproductive with detoxifying the body and being truly well. I know eating organic if freaking pricey but the way I see it, we pay the organic farmer now or we pay the doctor later when we are sick and knocking on death’s door. You don’t have to eat 100% organic, I don’t but I just try to eat the organic fruits and veggies that I know are a higher risk if grown conventional. Just do the best you can.
So how do wild blueberries play their part in all of this ‘heavy metal detox’ business? Well, they draw metals out of your brain tissue and help to heal and repair any gaps that may have been created by oxidation. When metals are removed it causes oxidation so this needs to be counteracted with high antioxidant foods such a wild blueberries. Oxidation is basically our body breaking down. Oxidising = ageing too and if you’re like me, you’re conscious of that
Wild blueberries contain unique phytochemicals that carry their own cool detox capabilities. Wild blueberries are one of the MOST healing foods on planet earth so get them into your diet if you can and your body and health will be giving you high fives.
If you haven’t been into eating seaweeds in the past, I’d highly suggest you start with dulse and while nori is great (what they wrap sushi in), you have to be careful of takeaway/restaurant sushi as it is often made with white rice which they often add white sugar to) and don’t even get me started on their mayo, soy sauce or wasabi!
Dulse is one of the most powerful seaweeds for removing heavy metals and that’s because it binds to so many different ones such as aluminium, cadmium, copper, lead and nickel. This powerhouse sea veggie can go deep down (similar to coriander) into the dark, hidden places in your digestive tract and gut where it hunts down metals like a sniper. It won’t destroy them though but rather it picks them up, hold on tight and NEVER lets go! This way the metals leave your body through elimination/bowel movement.
So combining these 5 key ingredients you have got an incredibly impressive heavy metal butt-kicking smoothie! And if you don’t enjoy the taste of the coriander that is ok, but just try to get it into your daily diet somewhere? You can add it fresh to salads, dressings, sauces, stir-fry and more but just make sure it’s a good handful and eat it on the same day that you have your smoothie.
